Bio taken from the official Miss Tennessee USA website:

Kiara is a student, NFL cheerleader and boutique buyer. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with a concentration in organisms, ecology and biodiversity from Hampton University in 2012. In 2014, she received her Master’s in Public Health from Meharry Medical College. She graduated cum laude from both institutions. Her ultimate career goal is to become a pediatric gastroenterologist and to open a pediatric office in an underserved area. As a future health care professional, the overall health of all people is of great importance to her.

1. Tell us how your life has changed since being crowned Miss Tennessee USA 2015. What has been the most rewarding experience so far?

This year has been absolutely amazing!! Every single appearance has been rewarding in its own way. Whether I was able to inspire a young girl with my story of determination and perseverance or simply putting a smile on someone’s face, my life has truly been changed forever. I’ve learned so many life lessons that will not only help my professional career, but things that I can take with me from day to day. Lastly, the pageant experience has motivated me to strive for my personal best in everything I do. Throughout this experience, I have learned to adore the woman that I am becoming; more self-assured, more accepting of my individuality, and more determined to live my life for God’s purpose.

2. Who are some of your favorite beauty and fashion icons?

MyBeyoncé’, Jennifer Lopez, Kerry Washington, Diana Ross, Phylicia Rashad, Iman, Crystal Stewart…I admire all of these women for very different reasons, as they all represent beauty and fashion in various ways!

3. Describe to us your own personal style. Do you prefer heels or flats?

I definitely prefer heels! Although I’m already 5’9”, I have always preferred heels instead of flats. I think my personal style can be classified as southern chic and very classic.

4. What are your must have beauty products?

CHI Argan oil (w/Moringa Oil): keeps my hair moisturized and shiny without weighing it down.
Dermalogica skin smoothing cream: I LOVE using this moisturizer at night. It keeps little breakouts under control.
Make Up For Ever Pro-finish powder and HD Foundation: This combination provides the perfect coverage for day-to-day makeup and even more glam looks.

5. What songs can we find on your playlist right now? What are your top workout songs?

I LOVE Beyoncé’!! Any one of her upbeat songs will encourage me to get through any workout.

6. Did you enter in beauty pageants when you were younger or was Miss USA your first experience?

My mom and I have been avid pageant fans every since I can remember!! I started competing in pageantry around age 17. As a dancer and performer since the age two, being on stage in front of an audience was nothing new to me. I originally entered my first pageant because of the chance to earn scholarship money. After a few years, it became a huge hobby and the experiences I received were unparalleled. Competing at Miss USA became one of my life goals

and after four years of hard work and dedication, that goal was accomplished!

7. You graduated from Meharry Medical College with a Master’s of Science in Public Health. What prompted that choice of study?

My ultimate career is to become a pediatrician and serve an underserved community. Earning my Master’s of Science in Public Health degree gave me a stepping stone to this goal and serves as a great background for any physician.

8. How do you stay fit? Do you adhere to any specific diet? (Vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, etc.)

I stay fit by eating a very clean diet…no fast food, no processed food, minimal salt and sugar. I eat plenty of whole grains, leafy vegetables, and lean meat. I also do various forms of cardio and weight lifting throughout the week.

9. Tell us something about yourself others would find shocking!

I was hit by a drunk driver at age 17. With this situation, I learned three important things: with God and family, I can overcome any obstacle, NEVER drink and drive, and always wear a seat belt. Experiencing this horrible accident most importantly gave me the necessary resources to motivate others to never drink and drive.

10. What can we expect from you in the next few months? Any projects?

Sadly, my year as Miss Tennessee USA comes to an end in October. Un

til then, I plan to continue working with the charities I have supported throughout my reign: Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, Blood: Water, Susan G. Komen, to name a few. I also have some modeling opportunities in the works and plan to return to medical school soon as well.
