Bio taken from ZEALYN’S official website:

ZEALYN (the artist formerly known as Angie Miller) is an independent American singer/songwriter. Following her success from American Idol (placed 3rd in 2013), she released her debut EP, ‘Weathered’, on November 12th, 2014 which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart. She has co-written all of the material for this release. Angie is striving to show all sides of her personality in an intricate and artistic manner in which she feels current mainstream music largely lacks. She further explained, “I want to have music that has meaning and is real. I don’t want to have dance-party music, but at the same time, I don’t want to put people to sleep.”

1. Tell us about your experience on American Idol. Do you keep in touch with the other contestants?

American Idol was a crazy experience. It was a mix of every single emotion: happy, stressful, exhausting, exciting. It was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be, but I’m very thankful for it. I learned a lot real quick. The best part about it was the incredible fan base I gained. They have been so supportive the past three years.

2. Who are some artists that inspired you to pursue music?

I have been fans of Twenty One Pilots and Tori Kelly for a while now. When I first started supporting them, they were brand new and just doing what they love. Because they pursued and were passionate about there music, they now have incredible music careers that are so inspiring. I couldn’t be more happy for them!

3. How do you stay fit? Do you follow a specific diet or fitness plan?

I love to stay active! I wish I was able to spend more time doing active things, but it gets hard when I’m in the studio or on the road. Things I do daily are stretches, squats, push ups, and lunges. But when ever I get the chance to do Zumba or go for a jog, I do! I don’t follow a diet, but I like to be smart about what I’m eating. I’m a huge fan of super foods like avocado, spinach, and eggs.

4. What are the top 5 skincare/makeup products you can not live without?

I always used to think Mary Kay products were just for old ladies haha! But I started using Mary Kay products last year and now I can’t get enough of them. I love their face washes and lotions. It leaves my skin really clean after a full day of wearing makeup. For makeup, I use all MAC cosmetics (except for mascara I use covergirl lashblast volume). My two favorite MAC eyeshadow colors at the moment are Folie Satin and Sketch Velvet.

5. Tell us something about yourself that others would be shocked to find out!

I have never shaved my legs. Haha just kidding! I don’t know… I can’t really think of something shocking. Maybe that I love black olives and could eat them like popcorn.

2015_05_18_AngieMiller_HometownShow-76. Describe to us your song writing process? Do you write the lyrics first or the music?

The great thing about song writing is that it’s different every time! Sometimes the music is written first, sometimes there will be a certain lyrical topic I want to sing about, and other times I’ll be humming a melody that I like. There are so many voice memos on my phone of random melodies.

7. How would you describe your own personal style? Do you prefer heels or flats? Dresses or jeans?

Okay, I’m not that great at describing it so I could be way off, but right now I would describe my on-stage style as avant-garde grunge. I like a lot of black and that “I didn’t try too hard look”. I like to look for pieces of clothing that have something really unique about them – that no one else would have, but that also have a minimalistic feel to them. I like jeans and flats more for shows, but I love a good, simple heel for a red carpet look.
On a casual day, I’m mostly just in active wear and Nikes.

8. At what age did you recognize your talent for singing?

2015_05_18_AngieMiller_HometownShow-5

I’ve always wanted to sing, even at the young age of four. But I think it was around the age of 10 that people started noticing I actually had talent. That gave me confidence and that was when I knew I wanted to make singing a career for the rest of my life.

9. Tell us what we can expect from you in the next few months. New music, tour, appearances, etc..?

Well, I am currently in Lakeland, Florida recording new music at a studio called The Vanguard Room. I can’t even explain how excited I am for this new music. I have grown more as an artist since my last EP, ‘Weathered’, released. This new music is even better and more artistic. For the next few months I am going to put all my energy into releasing this music and going on a tour. I can’t wait for my fans to hear it and to meet them on the road.

10. What are some of your favorite songs?

Its hard to just pick songs, but some of my favorite artists are Copeland, Lorde, Paramore, Twenty One Pilots, and MØ.
